So Season 2 of Killjoys gets straight into the action, picking up from and resolving last seasons cliff hanger immediately but satisfyingly. If you thought we were in for a season long search for D’Avin, you are wrong. Things have been shaken up and it looks mostly for the better!
The episode revolves around a lady shaped maguffin who I really hope we get to see again soon, as well as giving Pree a more front and center role in the team, which is a welcome change to the kind of sometimes bland, central trio. He gets to show his chops as a badass and allude to a less savory past than his unsavory present. The character kind of reminded me of Job from Banshee in his off handed badassery and precision put downs!
The plot with D’Avin was less satisfying if I’m honest, but we got to see lots of Luke Macfarlane’s muscles, which I’m sure made many fans very happy!
The action as always, was pretty sharp and well shot, if a bit videogamey (speaking of videogamey-If you have played Call of Duty, you may be slightly taken out of it by the ‘future’ weapons all being current generation firearms.). The dialogue was fun and bantery but I’m not sure if something has changed or I just didn’t notice last season, but is Lucy’s dialogue a bit irritating?
So in the drought of genre TV that is the summer (No, tv networks, why don’t YOU go out and play?!) this is really welcome sci fi fun that if you just kind of squint your brain, could be imagined to be set in the Firefly universe somewhere.
I definitely recommend checking out season 2 of Killjoys on Syfy
